Some birds hatch with feathers
Birds hatch the eggs covered with a firm eggshell. Every hen hatches several eggs. After pairing cock and hen build a nest together. The nest can look as a bowl from a dirty, grasses and branches, and can be located in hollow of a tree-trunk or even under the ground. One parent sits on eggs to keep eggs worm, and the second is in search of feed. When nestlings hatch, the majority of birds feeds them and protects from enemies until nestlings grow up and left a parental nest. Due to ability to fly on the big distances many birds migrate in warm territories when winter came. In the spring when feed are enough, they come back home where hatch nestlings again.
Evolution of birds. Birds and reptiles evolution related.
Undoubtedly, ancestors of birds were reptiles — bird’s legs are scaly, and eggs are covered with a firm eggshell. Well known, that birds are the descendants of dinosaurs who have lived up to now.
As well as dinosaurs, ancient birds had teeth, fingers and long bone tails, but they had still small wings and a few feathers. Probably, they used wings to plan from a branch to branch or to keep the big speed when they rescued from predators. Gradually the structure of their bodies has changed and they could rise in air and be able to fly as nowadays birds.
Different types of bird beaks
Bird beaks vary greatly in both shape and size. By looking closely at a bird’s beak, you can often tell what kind of food that bird eats. Some birds feed on small animals, while other birds eat seeds. Their beaks are different, because they are used differently. Hawks, for example, have a beak made for tearing the meat of small animals, such as mice. The tiny humming bird has a beak made for sucking liquid from flowers.
Cardinals have a strong beak good for cracking seeds. Fast-flying swallows have small beaks made for catching insects. Robins have pointed beaks for stabbing worms. Woodpeckers have strong beaks just right for pounding holes in wood as they look for insects.
Many water birds also have different kinds of beaks. A pelican has a large beak made for scooping up fishes. An anhinga has a sharp beak good for stabbing fish that swim by.
